How Do I Stream Live Audio?

"Live Audio" refers to audio that is being broadcast, typically either exclusively over an Internet connection or via an AM or FM radio tower. Depending on the actual source of the audio, there are a number of ways you can stream this information online. This includes using a program like iTunes or Windows Media Player or going right to the source and visiting the main website for the streaming audio's source.

1.Use a program like Windows Media Player or iTunes. Both Windows Media Player (which comes pre-installed on all Windows-based computers) and iTunes (which comes pre-installed on all Mac computers but is also available as a free Windows download) have the ability to stream live audio, as long as you know the Web URL of the live audio source. Simply launch the appropriate program and select the "Radio" option.

2.Visit the website of your favorite local AM or FM radio station. A large number of radio stations across the country have taken to the Web and offer free streaming versions of all of their live programming. You can listen to your favorite songs from your computer or listen to your favorite radio talk show hosts without ever actually turning on the radio in the first place. Simply go to the website of the radio station and look for the "Listen Live" feature.

3.Sign up for Sirius or XM Satellite Radio's streaming online service. Both Sirius and XM Satellite Radio services offer online streaming of all of their hundreds of satellite radio channels. This is a pay service that requires a monthly fee, but once you sign up you can immediately begin listening to live audio programming from your Web browser or portable media playing device.
