How to Build a FM Receiver Antenna

Date:2014/8/22 15:02:17 Hits:
Making a simple FM antenna from a length of wire allows listeners to pick up a greater range of radio stations on their FM receiver. Basic antennas only require a few tools and shouldn't take long to construct. The longer the length of wire, the greater the reception but most radio listeners should get adequate results from a length of wire approximately 10 feet long.

Things You'll Need

    * FM receiver
    * 10+ feet of 300 Ohm twinlead wire
    * Wire stripper tool
    * Screwdriver
    * Electrical tape

Making A Basic FM Antenna From Wire

1.Find a location in the home where the antenna can be easily moved or hung in a good position.

2.Strip approximately 1 inch of the insulating plastic from one end of the 300 Ohm twinlead wire. This end will be attached to the FM receiver.

3.Attach the stripped end of the 300 Ohm twinlead wire to the FM receiver. Some FM receivers have a push-button clip system while others require a screwdriver to pinch the metal and make a contact. The point on the back of the receiver should be clearly labeled.

4.Turn on the FM receiver and try to pick up a radio station even if it is static or unclear. From this point move the antenna until the reception on the radio station improves.

5.Hang the 300 Ohm twinlead wire in the position which provides the best clarity of sound using electrical tape.
